Much more happens in school than learning the 3 R’s . Students also learn how to be, how to learn, and how to work. The Elementary School Counselor works with parents and guardians, school staff and communities to help students ask questions and seek answers about themselves. I call these questions the Counseling C's.
· Consideration-- Who am I? How am I alike and different from others? What is expected of me?
· Coordination-- How do I care for myself? How do I organize and manage myself?
· Connection--How do I make friends? How do I relate to others? How do I support others?
· Cognition—How do I learn? How do I solve problems?
· Confidence—How do I feel about what and how I learn?
· Communication— How do I express my ideas and my feelings?
· Creativity –How do I express who I am? How do I demonstrate what I have learned?
· Choices-- What do I want to do? How do I make decisions? What are my goals?
· Cooperation and Collaboration—How do I work with others?
· Conflict Resolution—How do I get along with others? How do I work things out with others?
· College and Career Readiness—What ideas and plans to I have for my future?
The School Counselor conducts Guidance Classes on a regular basis as well as meeting with small groups of students and individuals to meet more specific needs.
